trepte

Trepte is a village and former municipality located in the state of Saxony‑Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010 it has been incorporated as an Ortsteil of the town of Kemberg, within the district of Wittenberg. The settlement lies on the eastern bank of the Elbe River, approximately 30 kilometres southeast of the district capital, Wittenberg, and 15 kilometres northwest of the larger city of Lutherstadt Burg. As of the 2019 census, Trepte had a population of around 520 inhabitants and covered an area of 11.2 km².

the
Electorate

Kingdom

river‑related
trade
have
traditionally
formed
the
basis
of
the
local
economy,
while
proximity
to
the
Elbe
facilitated
timber
rafting
and
fishing.
The
former
municipality
retained
a
largely
rural
character,
with
many
half‑timbered
farmhouses
dating
from
the
18th
and
19th
centuries.

its
