Its composition is envisioned as a blend of processed resin or sap fractions, natural tannins, and cellulose-rich fibers or fillers, stabilized with plant-based crosslinkers. The material is formulated to be tacky in the wet state and to develop strength as it cures, with properties tunable by adjusting resin content, fiber load, and curing conditions. Trepaste is intended to be low in volatile organic compounds and fully bio-based where possible.

Production involves sustainable harvesting of tree exudates, purification to remove impurities, and combining with compatible binders and additives. Curing mechanisms rely on moisture-triggered polymerization and exposure to light or heat, producing a cohesive, water-resistant network suitable for both domestic and industrial applications. End-of-life handling is a consideration, with potential for recyclability or controlled biodegradation depending on formulation.

Applications include woodworking joints, sealing gaps in eco-friendly construction, crafts, and art conservation. While still largely in the concept or pilot stage, trepaste is discussed as part of broader efforts to reduce reliance on synthetic glues and to support forest-positive materials.
