Trascorrendo is the gerund form of the Portuguese verb transcorrer (also spelled transcorrER in some varieties), meaning to pass, to elapse, or to occur during a period of time. It denotes ongoing progression of time or events within a given interval and is often used to describe what happens as time moves forward.

Etymology and sense. The term originates from the combination of a prefix related to movement across and the verb correr (to run). In this sense, transcorrer conveys the idea of time or events “running through” a span. The gerund trascorrendo therefore expresses an active, continuous passage of time or sequence of happenings within that span.

Usage and style. Trascorrendo appears mainly in narrative or formal prose to set a timeline or frame events. It can introduce concurrent action or describe the progression of days, months, or experiences: for example, “Tras correndo o tempo, as lembranças se tornaram mais nítidas” (as time passed, memories became clearer). In many contexts, synonymous expressions such as decorrer, decorrer, or passar do tempo can be used instead. Some Brazilian Portuguese varieties may also show the spelling variant transcorrendo, though trascorrendo is widely understood and encountered in everyday writing.

Grammatical notes. As a non-finite verb form (gerund), trascorrendo combines with auxiliary verbs to form progressive or continuous senses, although Portuguese often relies on other constructions for aspect. Its usage can appear more literary or formal than everyday speech.
