Tractchiasm is a rare neurological condition characterized by the crossing of the visual pathways in the brain, resulting in a reversal of the visual fields in both eyes. This means that what is seen in the left visual field of one eye is perceived in the right visual field of the other eye, and vice versa. The condition is often associated with other neurological disorders, such as brain tumors, stroke, or traumatic brain injury.

The exact cause of tractchiasm is not fully understood, but it is believed to be due to damage or disruption to the optic chiasm, the point where the optic nerves from each eye cross over in the brain. This crossing allows the brain to process visual information from both eyes correctly.

Symptoms of tractchiasm include double vision, where objects appear duplicated or displaced, and visual field defects, where certain areas of vision are lost or distorted. The condition can also lead to difficulties with depth perception and spatial orientation.

Treatment for tractchiasm depends on the underlying cause. If the condition is due to a brain tumor or other mass, surgical removal may be necessary. In cases of stroke or traumatic brain injury, rehabilitation and physical therapy may be recommended to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. In some cases, tractchiasm may resolve spontaneously over time.
