toxikológiát

Toxikológiát is the Hungarian term for toxicology, the scientific study of the adverse effects of chemical, physical, or biological agents on living organisms and the ecosystem, including the prevention and amelioration of such adverse effects. It is a multidisciplinary field that draws upon chemistry, biology, medicine, and pharmacology.

The primary goal of toxicology is to understand the mechanisms by which toxicants cause harm, to identify dose-response relationships (how the amount of exposure relates to the severity of the effect), and to establish safe levels of exposure for humans and the environment. Toxicologists investigate how substances are absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted by the body, and how they interact with biological systems at the cellular and molecular level.

Branches of toxicology include environmental toxicology, which focuses on the effects of pollutants on ecosystems; forensic toxicology, which deals with the legal aspects of poisonings; occupational toxicology, which studies workplace exposures; and clinical toxicology, which addresses the diagnosis and treatment of poisoning cases. Research in toxicology is crucial for developing regulations concerning public health, food safety, drug development, and environmental protection.
