It is sometimes observed as an inflected form of the verb tisztel (to respect, to honour), but the form tisztelted is not part of the modern, prescriptive conjugation. The canonical second-person singular past tense of tisztel is tiszteltél, while tisztel itself serves as the present tense stem (tisztel = he/she respects; te tisztelsz). Because tisztelted does not align with the regular conjugation patterns, it is typically regarded as a misspelling, dialectal variant, or an archaism in some texts.

In formal usage, tisztel is common and forms the basis for standard inflection. The adjective tisztelt, meaning “esteemed” or “honoured,” is widely used in polite address, for example in phrases like tisztelt hölgyeim és uraim (Dear ladies and gentlemen) or when referring to someone with respect. The verb form that expresses “you honoured” would normally be expressed with the standard past tense tiszteltél or (with a prefix) megtiszteltél, depending on whether the meaning is simply “you respected” or “you honoured someone.”

Given its uncertain status in standard Hungarian, tisztelted should be avoided in formal writing. If you encounter tisztelted in a text, it is likely a nonstandard variant, a typographical error, or a place where historical or dialectical spelling influenced the form. For clarity and correctness, rely on tiszteltél for the second-person past tense and on megtiszteltél when indicating that you honoured someone.
