A tieline, also spelled tie line, is a dedicated communications circuit between two locations that provides a private, fixed-quality connection separate from the public switched telephone network. Typically provisioned as a leased line by a telecommunications carrier, a tieline carries voice and/or data with characteristics such as predictable bandwidth, low and consistent latency, and defined service levels. Because it is dedicated to the two endpoints, performance is largely independent of traffic on the public network.
