The term "théologies" is the French word for "theologies." It refers to the systematic and rational study of concepts of God and of the nature of religious truths. It is a discipline primarily, though not exclusively, associated with Christian traditions.

Theology attempts to understand and articulate religious beliefs. This process often involves examining sacred texts, such as the Bible, and engaging with tradition, reason, and experience. The field is divided into various branches. These include biblical theology, which focuses on the scriptures; historical theology, which studies the development of doctrine over time; and systematic theology, which seeks to organize religious beliefs into a coherent framework.

Other significant areas are moral theology, concerned with ethics and right conduct, and practical or pastoral theology, which applies theological insights to religious ministry and community life. The discipline often interacts with other fields of study, such as philosophy, history, and sociology.

The pursuit of theology is not confined to a single religion. While the term is frequently used in a Christian context, similar scholarly disciplines exist within other faiths, such as Islamic theology or Kalam, and Jewish theology. The overall goal is a deeper intellectual engagement with the fundamental questions of faith, divinity, and human existence.
