Tezlik is a fundamental physical quantity that describes how fast an object moves. It is defined as the rate at which distance changes with respect to time. In Uzbek, the noun tezlik means speed; the form tezlikni is the definite accusative case used when the speed is the direct object of a verb, for example tezlikni o’lchash means measuring the speed.

Speed is a scalar quantity, representing only how much or how fast, without regard to direction. Velocity, in contrast, is a vector quantity that includes both speed and direction. Average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the total time taken, while instantaneous speed is the speed at a specific moment. Likewise, average velocity is the total displacement divided by total time, and instantaneous velocity is the rate of change of displacement at a moment in time.

Commonly used units for tezlik are meters per second (m/s) in the International System of Units (SI); kilometers per hour (km/h) are also widely used in everyday life. Speed can be measured with instruments such as speedometers in vehicles, radar or lidar devices, and GPS systems, depending on the context.

In physics, speed relates to distance and time through equations like speed = distance/time and velocity = displacement/time. The concepts extend to calculus, where speed is the magnitude of the derivative of position with respect to time, and velocity is the derivative of position as a vector. Relativistic considerations become important at high speeds, approaching the speed of light, where time, length, and mass exhibit relativistic effects.
