testsúlyos

Testsúlyos is a Hungarian adjective meaning "based on body weight" or "weight-based." In medical and pharmacological contexts, a testsúlyos dosing regimen determines the administered dose from a patient’s body weight. The standard approach is to prescribe a dose in milligrams per kilogram of body weight (mg/kg), then multiply by the patient’s weight in kilograms: Dose = (mg/kg) × weight (kg).

Weight-based dosing is common in pediatric medicine, antibiotics, chemotherapeutics, anesthesia, and certain analgesics, where drug exposure must be balanced against size, metabolism, and organ function. It is widely used for drugs with narrow therapeutic windows or where pharmacokinetic parameters correlate with body mass. In adults, weight-based dosing remains important for many agents, though some medicines use fixed doses or alternative methods such as body surface area.

Limitations and refinements: using total body weight alone can be misleading in patients with obesity, edema, or severe malnutrition. In such cases clinicians may apply ideal body weight, adjusted body weight, or lean body mass to determine the dose. Other influencing factors include age, kidney and liver function, concomitant diseases, and drug interactions, which may necessitate adjustments or monitoring beyond initial calculations.

Examples of testsúlyos dosing are common for certain antibiotics (e.g., vancomycin, some aminoglycosides), various chemotherapeutic regimens, and some anesthetics, while other drugs use fixed or alternative dosing strategies.
