Termékfelelősség, often translated as product liability, refers to the legal responsibility of manufacturers, distributors, and sellers for defects in the products they supply. This liability ensures that consumers are protected from harm caused by faulty or dangerous goods. The concept is rooted in the idea that those who profit from putting products into the stream of commerce should bear the burden of any harm those products cause.

There are generally three main types of product defects that can lead to liability: manufacturing defects, design defects, and marketing defects (or warning defects). A manufacturing defect occurs when a product departs from its intended design, even though all possible care was exercised in the preparation and marketing of the product. A design defect means that the product's design itself is inherently dangerous, making the entire product line unsafe. A marketing defect, or failure to warn, arises when a product is dangerous if used in a reasonably foreseeable way, and the manufacturer fails to provide adequate warnings or instructions.

Product liability laws vary by jurisdiction, but common remedies for injured parties include compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and in some cases, punitive damages. The burden of proof typically lies with the injured party to demonstrate that the product was defective, that the defect existed when it left the manufacturer's control, and that the defect caused their injuries.
