Telogeenivaihe refers to the final stage of the hair growth cycle, known as the resting phase. Following the active growth phase (anagen) and a transitional phase (catagen), the hair follicle enters telogen. During this period, the hair stops growing and becomes dormant. The hair shaft, which has detached from the dermal papilla, remains in place within the follicle until it is eventually shed. This resting phase can last for several months.

At the end of the telogen phase, a new anagen hair begins to grow, pushing the old telogen hair out of the follicle. This natural shedding process is normal and contributes to the overall turnover of hair on the body. The duration of telogen can vary depending on the individual and the location of the hair on the body. Factors such as genetics, hormonal changes, and stress can influence the length and proportion of hairs in the telogen phase. A significant increase in telogen hairs, leading to noticeable thinning, is characteristic of telogen effluvium, a common form of hair loss.
