Teletekstapparaten, often referred to as teletext devices, were electronic receivers designed to display information broadcast over television signals. This system, known as teletext, allowed viewers to access a variety of text-based content, including news, weather forecasts, sports scores, and program guides. The devices typically featured a keypad or remote control for navigating through different pages of information. Users would enter a three-digit page number to retrieve specific content. Once the page was selected, the teletext decoder within the television or a standalone unit would process the data embedded in the vertical blanking interval of the TV signal and render it on screen.

The development of teletext began in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, with systems like Ceefax and Oracle becoming prominent. Other countries soon developed their own teletext services, such as Antiope in France and Videotex in Germany. Teletext was a significant advancement in digital information delivery to the home before the widespread adoption of the internet. It offered a simple, accessible, and often free method for obtaining information without the need for separate data connections. While some teletext services continued to operate for a period after the rise of the internet, the technology has largely been superseded by more dynamic and interactive online platforms.
