Tehiskiude, often translated as artificial fibers or man-made fibers, refers to a broad category of textile materials produced through chemical synthesis or processing of natural polymers. Unlike natural fibers such as cotton, wool, or silk which originate directly from plants or animals, tehiskiude are manufactured in factories. This manufacturing process allows for precise control over the fiber's properties, leading to a wide range of textures, strengths, and functionalities.

The creation of tehiskiude generally involves dissolving a raw material, either a synthetic polymer like petroleum derivatives or a modified natural polymer such as cellulose from wood pulp, into a liquid solution.
