teeplit

Teeplet is a term used to described a digit or symbol which does not technically represent a number, but can be used in place of one in certain contexts. This term is often associated with scientific notation and calculators that use numerical input systems.

In the context of calculator programming and programming languages, teeplets often refer to a set of two digits, plus some other elements, like decimal, or memory addresses that are used to uniquely represent a set of distinct symbols. In particular, some programming languages, especially pre-GL libraries and early Java versions, have used misuse of number teeplets, where each operation could have a similar sign before they pick up two values represented as separate digits, then move those together into a single register.

In other contexts, the term teeplet has also been used to refer to a combination of letters and numbers arranged in a set pattern, such as the well known teeplets seen as Mailroom Allocation Centre using Codes. In such use case, it is more often associated with software completion of committees, as also described at Exceptions.

Teeplets are often related to special numerical practices and coding techniques and might serve as a highlight example of teletext technology originally developed in the sixties.
