The tectopulvinar complex refers to a group of nuclei located in the dorsal thalamus that integrate visual and attentional information. It derives its name from its anatomical connections: the tectum, or superior colliculus, in the midbrain and the pulvinar nucleus of the thalamus. The primary components include the medial and lateral pulvinar subdivisions and the adjacent superior collicular areas that project directly to each other. These nuclei receive input from retinal pathways, the visual cortex, and various subcortical structures such as the lateral geniculate nucleus and the basal ganglia.
