Tarqalayotgan is an Uzbek verb form derived from the root tarqal, meaning “to spread” or “to disperse.” The suffix –ayotgan marks the present continuous tense, indicating an action that is ongoing. Thus tarqalayotgan literally translates to “is spreading” or “is being spread.” In everyday speech it can describe the physical dispersion of material or the metaphorical spread of information, such as rumors, diseases, or cultural practices.

The verb tarqalu is a light verb; tarqalayotgan is frequently used with particles that specify the object or subject. In literary contexts it appears in poetry to emphasize gradual unfolding, for example, “Bu kech yaqin tarqalayotgan qo‘llar” (“These close hands are spreading softly”).

Etymologically, tarqal originates from the Turkic root *tarqa, related to Persian targhīb “to scatter.” The continuous suffix –ayotgan traces back to Old Turkic auxiliary forms that create continuous aspect. Morphologically the pattern is root + –a + –yotgan, where –a marks the accusative or participial form and –yotgan provides continuity.

In modern Uzbek, tarqalayotgan appears in both formal reports and casual conversation. It is used to describe the ongoing spread of weather phenomena (“Issiq shamol tarqalayotgan”) or the diffusion of digital content (“O‘quvchilar video tarqalayotgan”).
