tarqab

Tarqab is a village located in the disputed territory of Kashmir, which is claimed by both India and Pakistan. The village is situated in the Kupwara district of Kashmir, near the Line of Control (LoC). The village is close to the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas and the River Jhelum flows nearby.

Tarqab village is a small rural settlement with a population density of approximately 100 individuals per square kilometer. The local inhabitants are primarily of the Kashmiri Muslim persuasion, speaking the local dialect of the Kashmiri language. However, most villagers are also fluent in Urdu and English. The economy of Tarqab is mainly based on agriculture, with the primary crops being tobacco, apple, and saffron.

The village is situated about 15 kilometers from the town of Kupwara, the district headquarters. Travel to Tarqab is typically done via scooter or a private vehicle, although local transportation options may be available. The village is also connected to the rest of Kashmir by a state highway.

Historically, Tarqab has had its share of events during the Kashmir conflict. However, there is no concrete evidence or reports of recent military operations in the vicinity of the village. The local residents seem to be living under close surveillance and are having difficulty acquiring any materials, services or communication from out side.

Regular worship takes place in local mosques. Traditional Kashmiri customs and traditions are prevalent among the residents, and Islamic values.
