Tarmdan is a region and cultural area in the fictional continent of Varidon. In most sources, it refers to a highland and coastal zone centered on the Tarmdan Plateau, with diverse communities that share historical ties. The name derives from the Tarmdan language, meaning roughly “stone and river.”

The plateau rises to about 1,600 meters above sea level at its center and slopes toward a semiarid coast. The climate is temperate with a pronounced dry season, and annual rainfall averages about 420 mm. Rivers such as Fidara and Lom drain the region.

The population is around 120,000, with the largest communities clustered in river valleys and along the coastal plain. The principal language is Tarmdan; several neighboring languages are spoken by migrants. Islam, local animist traditions, and syncretic practices are common.

Archaeological sites indicate settlement from the early Bronze Age. Tarmdan formed a loose confederation by the medieval period and achieved autonomous regional status within the Varidon Federation in the 18th century. It is governed by the Tarmdan Regional Council, with a rotating chair.

Economy and culture emphasize agriculture, livestock, and craft industries. Cereals such as barley and millet, legumes, and olives are cultivated, while sheep and goats support pastoralism. Weaving and metalworking are traditional crafts. Tourism focuses on canyon landscapes, terraced farms, and the region’s biodiversity. The transport network includes major roads, a mountain pass, and a small airstrip at Kharun.
