Taletelefonskanal is a term used in Swedish telecommunications literature to denote the voice channel of a telephone connection—the portion of a link that carries spoken speech from caller to recipient. The concept applies to both traditional landline networks and modern digital systems.

In analog systems, the taletelefonskanal corresponds to the voice-frequency band roughly 300 Hz to 3400 Hz and is carried over a copper pair in a circuit-switched network such as the PSTN. In digital telephony, the voice signal is encoded and transmitted as a data stream. A single voice channel is commonly represented as 64 kilobits per second (a DS0), with multiple DS0s multiplexed into higher-rate trunks.

In contemporary networks, voice channels can be logical rather than strictly physical. Voice over IP (VoIP) encodes speech with codecs such as G.711 or G.729 and sends it as packets over IP networks; signaling moves from SS7 in the PSTN to SIP-based protocols in IP telephony. Quality is affected by latency, jitter, and packet loss, which are managed through QoS mechanisms in modern networks.
