Takaisinsoitto, or callback, is a telecommunication feature that lets a caller request that the network or a service provider initiate a new call to the caller, typically when the recipient is available or the line becomes free. The term is commonly used in Finland and other Nordic markets to reduce missed connections and shorten wait times.

The service is implemented in mobile networks, fixed-line networks, VoIP systems, and modern contact-center software. It can be offered by mobile operators as a standard feature, by enterprise telephony systems, or as a standalone service. A user can trigger it by calling a special service number, using a predefined button or gesture on a device, or selecting a “call me back” option in an app or online portal.

How it works: if the callee is unavailable or busy, the system records the caller’s number and applies a policy or queue. The caller may be asked to confirm consent to receive a callback. When the line becomes available or at a scheduled time, the system dials back the number and connects the parties. Some implementations route the callback to a specific device or extension.

Benefits and considerations: tilbake-to-call services can reduce missed calls, lower average wait times, and improve service levels in contact centers. Potential drawbacks include privacy concerns, possible additional charges, and the need for valid contact information and user consent. Adoption may require subscription or integration with business telephony or customer-management systems.
