This is a negative feedback loop because the output (temperature) is used to oppose deviations from the desired input (set temperature).

Positive feedback, on the other hand, amplifies changes, leading to an exponential increase or decrease. While less common for regulation, it plays a role in processes like blood clotting or the amplification of signals in biological systems. In many technological applications, positive feedback can lead to instability if not carefully controlled.

Feedback systems are ubiquitous in nature and technology. They are fundamental to control engineering, where they are used to design systems that can operate reliably and adapt to changing conditions. Examples range from simple mechanical devices to complex biological organisms and sophisticated industrial processes.
