Table view height refers to the vertical extent of a table view on screen and to the height of its individual rows. In iOS, a table view (UITableView) displays a scrollable list of items, optionally grouped into sections. The on-screen height of the table view is determined by layout constraints or by its container view, and may change with device orientation, split view, or dynamic type settings.

Row height is controlled by the table view’s rowHeight property. The default value is 44 points. For fixed-height rows, assign a constant height. For dynamic content, configure the table view to use automatic dimension by setting rowHeight to UITableView.automaticDimension and providing an estimatedRowHeight to improve initial layout calculations. When using automatic dimensions, the height is derived from Auto Layout constraints within each table view cell.

If per-row height variation is required, you can implement the heightForRowAt: delegate method to return a specific height for each index path. However, relying on automaticDimension is typically preferred when cells are designed with flexible content through constraints, as it centralizes height calculations in the cell’s layout.

Headers and footers also influence perceived height, with heightForHeaderInSection and heightForFooterInSection (or automatic dimensions) controlling their vertical space. In Auto Layout-based designs, ensure all cell content is fully constrained, so the system can determine the exact height from the content.

Performance considerations include using an estimatedRowHeight to enable efficient scrolling and avoiding expensive computations in height calculations. Accessibility and dynamic type support are also important when using dynamic row heights to accommodate user preferences.
