tablah
Tablah, also known as tabla, is a pair of hand drums originating from the Indian subcontinent. The instrument consists of two drums: the tabla (smaller, higher-pitched) and the dayan (larger, lower-pitched). Both are played with the hands and fingers, producing a wide range of sounds and intricate rhythms. The dayan is typically made of wood and is tuned to a specific note, often the tonic of the raga being played. The tabla is usually made of clay or metal and produces a sharper, more percussive sound. The heads of both drums are made from animal hide, stretched over a wooden or metal frame. A characteristic feature of the tabla is the application of a black paste, known as "syahi" or "sorai," made from a mixture of flour, iron filings, and glue, to the center of the drumhead. This paste is crucial for producing the instrument's distinct tonal qualities and complex sonic textures.
Tablah is a central instrument in Hindustani classical music, where it is used for both solo performances
