Türeoidiidiga refers to inflammation of the thyroid gland. It is a condition that can arise from various causes and lead to changes in thyroid hormone production. While the term itself is a broad description of thyroid inflammation, specific types of thyroiditis are more commonly diagnosed.

One common form is Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland. This often leads to hypothyroidism, a condition of underactive thyroid. Another type is subacute thyroiditis, which is often viral and characterized by a painful enlargement of the thyroid, typically following a viral infection. Pain is a prominent symptom in subacute thyroiditis, and hormone levels can fluctuate, initially showing hyperthyroidism followed by temporary hypothyroidism before returning to normal.

Graves' disease, while primarily known for causing hyperthyroidism, can also involve inflammation of the thyroid. Postpartum thyroiditis is another form that occurs in women after childbirth and can also result in temporary thyroid dysfunction. Less common causes include drug-induced thyroiditis and silent thyroiditis, which is similar to subacute thyroiditis but without the pain. Diagnosis usually involves blood tests to check thyroid hormone levels and antibodies, as well as imaging techniques like ultrasound. Treatment varies depending on the specific type and severity of thyroid dysfunction, ranging from observation to thyroid hormone replacement therapy or medications to manage hormone levels.
