süütekoili

Süütekoili is an Estonian term that translates to "ignition coil" in English. It is a vital component of an internal combustion engine's ignition system. The primary function of the süütekoili is to transform the low voltage from the vehicle's battery into the high voltage required to create an electrical spark at the spark plug. This spark ignites the fuel-air mixture within the engine's cylinders, driving the pistons and ultimately powering the vehicle.

Typically, a süütekoili consists of two coils of wire wound around a soft iron core. The primary coil has fewer turns of thicker wire, and the secondary coil has many more turns of thinner wire. When the engine control unit (ECU) sends a signal to the süütekoili, it creates a magnetic field. As this field collapses, it induces a much higher voltage in the secondary coil, which is then directed to the spark plug. Modern vehicles often utilize individual süütekoilid for each cylinder, mounted directly on top of the spark plug, eliminating the need for traditional spark plug wires. This setup is known as a coil-on-plug system and generally improves ignition efficiency and reliability. A malfunctioning süütekoili can lead to misfires, rough idling, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption.
