Süntezis, derived from the Greek sunthesis meaning "placing together," denotes the process of combining two or more components to form a more complex product or system. The term is used across fields such as chemistry, biology, linguistics, philosophy, and technology, where it generally denotes constructive assembly rather than mere analysis.

In chemistry, synthesis is a deliberate sequence of reactions intended to build a target compound from simpler starting materials. It involves selecting reagents, reaction conditions, solvents, and catalysts, and aims for adequate yield and purity. Many pharmaceutical, agricultural, and material products result from synthetic routes.

In biology, biosynthesis refers to the cellular production of complex molecules, including proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates. Protein synthesis, for instance, proceeds by transcription of genetic information into mRNA, followed by translation at ribosomes with tRNA.
