A síkfelület, commonly referred to as a plane in English, is a fundamental geometric concept. It is an infinitely extending, two-dimensional surface that has no thickness. Imagine a perfectly flat sheet of paper that stretches out in all directions forever; that is the essence of a plane. In three-dimensional Euclidean space, a plane is defined by a single linear equation of the form Ax + By + Cz = D, where A, B, and C are not all zero.

Planes are crucial in geometry, physics, and engineering. They serve as the basis for defining other geometric objects and understanding spatial relationships. For instance, lines can lie on a plane, or intersect a plane at a single point. Two distinct planes can either be parallel (never intersecting) or intersect in a line. The shortest distance between two points in a plane is a straight line segment.

In practical applications, while true planes are theoretical constructs, approximations of planes are ubiquitous. Tabletops, walls, floors, and even calm bodies of water can be considered approximations of a plane for many purposes. The concept of a plane is also fundamental to concepts like vectors, transformations, and coordinate systems, forming the bedrock of much of our understanding of the physical world.
