Színmód refers to the way colors are represented and processed in digital imaging and printing. Different színmód are used depending on the intended application of the image.

The most common színmód for digital displays and web graphics is RGB (Red, Green, Blue). This additive color model simulates how the human eye perceives color by combining different intensities of red, green, and blue light. When these three colors are mixed at their highest intensity, they produce white, and at zero intensity, they produce black.

For printing, the CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black) színmód is typically used. This subtractive color model works by absorbing certain wavelengths of light and reflecting others. Inks of cyan, magenta, and yellow are applied to paper, and black ink is often added (hence "Key") to achieve deeper blacks and improve contrast. When combined, these inks theoretically produce black, but in practice, a separate black ink is essential for good print quality.

Other színmód exist for specific purposes. Grayscale, for instance, represents images using only shades of gray, from black to white, without any color information. Lab color space is another model designed to encompass all perceivable colors by the human eye, providing a more device-independent way to represent color. Understanding the correct színmód for a given task is crucial for achieving accurate and intended color reproduction.
