Számosság refers to the concept of cardinality in mathematics, which is a measure of the number of elements in a set. For finite sets, the cardinality is simply the count of its members. For example, the set {apple, banana, cherry} has a cardinality of 3. This is often denoted by vertical bars around the set, such as |{apple, banana, cherry}| = 3.

The concept becomes more profound when dealing with infinite sets. Georg Cantor introduced the idea that infinite sets can have different sizes of infinity. This means that not all infinite sets have the same cardinality. For instance, the set of natural numbers {1, 2, 3, ...} is infinite, and its cardinality is denoted by $\aleph_0$ (aleph-null). This is the smallest infinite cardinality.

Cantor demonstrated that the set of real numbers, which includes all rational and irrational numbers, has a larger cardinality than the set of natural numbers. This cardinality is denoted by $c$ (for continuum) or $\aleph_1$ (aleph-one), assuming the continuum hypothesis is true. The existence of different infinite cardinalities is a fundamental result in set theory. Comparing the cardinalities of two sets involves determining if a one-to-one correspondence (a bijection) can be established between them. If such a correspondence exists, the sets have the same cardinality. If no bijection can be found, their cardinalities are different.
