Szoftverrétegek refer to the architectural design principle of dividing a software system into distinct horizontal layers. Each layer has a specific responsibility and provides services to the layer above it, while only depending on the layer directly below it. This separation of concerns promotes modularity, maintainability, and testability within the software.

A common example is the three-tier architecture. The presentation layer, also known as the UI or frontend, is responsible for interacting with the user. The application layer, or business logic layer, handles the core functionalities and processes the data. The data layer, or backend, manages data storage and retrieval, interacting with databases.

The benefits of using software layers include improved code organization, making it easier for developers to understand and modify specific parts of the system without affecting others. This layered approach also facilitates the reuse of components and simplifies testing by allowing individual layers to be tested in isolation. Furthermore, it enables different teams to work on different layers concurrently, potentially speeding up development cycles. Changes in one layer, as long as the interface remains consistent, should ideally not impact other layers. This abstraction is a cornerstone of robust software engineering.
