Sinus infections can also cause referred pain to the eye area due to the proximity of the sinuses. Less commonly, more serious conditions like optic neuritis or orbital cellulitis can present with significant eye pain and may require urgent medical attention.

This may include visual acuity testing, examination of the external eye and eyelids, and potentially more detailed investigations like tonometry to measure intraocular pressure or a slit-lamp examination to view the internal structures of the eye. Treatment depends entirely on the identified cause and can range from simple lubrication for dry eyes to antibiotics for infections or specific medications for glaucoma or inflammatory conditions. Persistent or severe szemfájdalom warrants prompt professional evaluation.
