Szakosítás, also known as compartmentalization, is a psychological defense mechanism where individuals separate different aspects of their personality, thoughts, or emotions into distinct compartments or categories. This process helps manage complex emotions and experiences by isolating them from the rest of one's psyche. By compartmentalizing, individuals can temporarily suppress or avoid dealing with difficult feelings or memories, allowing them to function more effectively in their daily lives.

The term "szakosítás" originates from Hungarian, where "szak" means "compartment" or "section," and "osítás" means "division." This defense mechanism is often used to cope with stress, trauma, or overwhelming emotions. For example, someone might compartmentalize their feelings of anger and sadness by focusing solely on their work or hobbies, temporarily ignoring their emotional distress.
