Syöpäkehitys refers to the biological process by which normal cells transform into cancerous cells. This is a multi-step process that involves the accumulation of genetic and epigenetic alterations within a cell, leading to uncontrolled proliferation, evasion of cell death, and the ability to invade surrounding tissues and metastasize to distant sites.

The initial stages of syöpäkehitys often involve mutations in genes that regulate cell growth and division, such as proto-oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. These mutations can lead to a loss of normal cell cycle control, causing cells to divide excessively.
