Synfältsförändringar refer to alterations in a person's visual field, which is the entirety of what an individual can see at any given moment while their eye is fixed in one position. These changes can manifest in various ways, such as a reduction in the extent of the visual field, the appearance of blind spots (scotomas), or distortions in the perception of shapes and sizes within the visual field.

Several conditions can lead to synfältsförändringar. Glaucoma, a disease affecting the optic nerve, is a common cause and often results in peripheral vision loss that progresses over time. Retinal diseases, like retinitis pigmentosa, can also impair the photoreceptor cells, leading to specific patterns of visual field defects.
