Swampdwelling refers to organisms that live, feed, or reproduce primarily in swamp ecosystems. Swamps are wetlands with saturated soils, standing or slow-moving water, and dense vegetation such as cypress, mangroves, or reeds. The term covers a broad range of life, including bacteria, invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals that rely on swamp habitats for shelter and resources.

Swamps provide productive habitats with nutrient-rich waters and complex vegetation. Water levels and oxygen in the soil can fluctuate seasonally, influencing behavior and life cycles. Many swamp-dwellers use root mats, logs, and channels for shelter and movement.

Common adaptations include webbed feet, streamlined or laterally compressed bodies for moving through vegetation, camouflage coloration, and the ability to tolerate wet conditions. Some species are amphibious, breeding and feeding in water while foraging on land.

Swamps support diverse food webs and contribute to nutrient cycling and water purification. They provide breeding grounds for amphibians and waterfowl and serve as refuges for numerous small animals.
