A svømmehette, often translated as a swimming cap, is a close-fitting head covering designed to be worn by swimmers. Its primary purpose is to keep hair out of the face and eyes during swimming, preventing distractions and improving the swimmer's efficiency. Swim caps also help to reduce drag in the water by streamlining the head and preventing hair from floating loosely.

Beyond improved performance, svømmehetter serve hygienic functions. They prevent loose hair from entering the swimming pool's filtration system, which can clog the filters and reduce water quality. In some public pools, wearing a swim cap is mandatory for these reasons, as well as to prevent hair dye from leaching into the water.

Svømmehetter are typically made from waterproof or water-resistant materials such as latex, silicone, or Lycra. Latex caps are generally the most affordable but can be prone to tearing and may cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Silicone caps are more durable and offer a better fit but are usually more expensive. Lycra caps are often the most comfortable and flexible, but they are not as effective at keeping hair completely dry. The choice of material often depends on the swimmer's priorities regarding comfort, durability, and cost.
