Sumentaminen is a Finnish term meaning the process of clouding or blurring that reduces the clarity of a vision, image, or perception. The word derives from sumu, fog or mist, with the verb sumenttaa meaning to cloud or blur, and the noun sumentaminen indicating the act or effect.

In optics and daily life, sumentaminen commonly refers to condensation or moisture on a surface that causes a surface to appear hazy, such as a bathroom mirror fogging up, a camera lens fogging in humid conditions, or frost dripping on a window.
