Stjärnansamlingar are groups of stars that are found close together in space. These collections of stars are gravitationally bound and often share a common origin, meaning they formed from the same giant cloud of gas and dust. Open clusters are typically found in the disk of spiral galaxies, including our own Milky Way. They tend to be relatively young, with ages ranging from a few million to a few billion years old. Examples of open clusters include the Pleiades and the Hyades.

Globular clusters, on the other hand, are much older and more tightly packed than open clusters. They are usually found in the halo surrounding galaxies and can contain hundreds of thousands to millions of stars. Globular clusters are thought to be among the oldest structures in the universe, with ages often exceeding 10 billion years. Their dense, spherical shape and the strong gravitational forces holding them together are characteristic features. The Hercules Globular Cluster and Omega Centauri are well-known examples.
