Spåning refers to the practice of foretelling future events or revealing hidden aspects of a person or situation by interpreting signs, omens, or symbolic systems. It is commonly described as a form of divination or fortune-telling and appears in many cultures under various names and traditions.

The term derives from the verb spå (to foretell) in Scandinavian languages; spådom (prophecy) and spåning (the act of foretelling) share the same root. While the specific techniques vary, they are united by the aim of gaining insight beyond ordinary perception.

Common methods include reading cards (such as tarot or oracle decks), runes, palmistry, tea leaf reading, crystal ball gazing, astrology, numerology, dream interpretation, and the interpretation of omens and natural signs.
