Sprutbalk, in English commonly referred to as a spray boom, is a non-rotating horizontal arm attached to a liquid spraying system for distributing pesticides, fertilizers, or other liquids through multiple nozzles. The design aims to provide wide, even coverage while minimizing spray drift and waste. The term is used in Swedish and other Nordic languages to describe this component of an agricultural sprayer.

A spray boom may be rigid or foldable and can consist of multiple sections that extend or retract. It is typically mounted on tractors, sprayer units, or other applicators and built from materials such as aluminum alloys or stainless steel to balance strength and light weight. Lengths vary from several meters on small machines to over a dozen meters on large commercial systems. Nozzles are mounted along the length with spacing chosen to ensure uniform application; nozzle selection influences droplet size, spray pattern, and drift potential. Modern booms often feature hydraulic or electric height and width adjustment, foldable or telescoping sections, and stabilization or crash protection to improve stability and ease of transport.

Operation involves delivering liquid from a tank through a pump and into the nozzles at a calibrated rate. Operators adjust ground speed, pressure, and nozzle selection to achieve the target application rate. Drift control is a key consideration, with drift-reducing nozzles and proper boom height and angle helping minimize off-target movement.

Maintenance and safety focus on regular inspection for cracks, leaks, and nozzle wear; cleaning and flushing after use; lubrication of moving parts; and secure mounting. Users should follow label instructions and local regulations, perform calibration, and employ drift-reduction practices and appropriate personal protective equipment.
