Spermler, also known as spermatozoa, are the male reproductive cells in many sexually reproducing organisms. Their primary function is to fertilize the female egg cell, or ovum, to initiate the development of a new individual. Sperm cells are typically small, motile, and possess a distinct structure.

The morphology of a sperm cell generally consists of three main parts: the head, the midpiece, and the tail. The head contains the nucleus, which carries the haploid set of chromosomes (half the genetic material of the organism). It also houses the acrosome, a cap-like structure filled with enzymes that help the sperm penetrate the egg's outer layers. The midpiece is packed with mitochondria, which provide the energy (ATP) required for the sperm's motility. The tail, or flagellum, is a whip-like appendage that propels the sperm through the female reproductive tract.

In humans, sperm are produced in the testes through a process called spermatogenesis. This process begins at puberty and continues throughout a man's reproductive life. After maturation in the testes, sperm are stored and transported through a series of ducts, eventually becoming part of the semen, the fluid ejaculated during sexual intercourse. The number of sperm produced is vast, but only a small fraction will successfully reach and fertilize an egg. Factors such as sperm count, motility, and morphology are crucial for male fertility.
