Soluorganella refers to a genus of Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria. Initially classified as a member of the genus Francisella, it was later reclassified as a distinct genus within the family Francisellaceae. The genus name 'Soluorganella' is derived from the Latin words'solu,' meaning dissolve, and 'organella,' indicating the presence of small organ-like structures within the cell.

These bacteria are aerobic, meaning they require oxygen to grow, and are thermophilic, requiring temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius for growth. The growth rate of Soluorganella species is generally slow, often taking several days to form visible colonies. This genus exhibits a unique characteristic, where the bacterial cells dissociate into individual component lipids or polar lipofuscin granules in the process known as invagination, resulting in an irregular shape of these lipofuscin granules.

Soluorganella species possess a complex peptidoglycan layer in their cell wall, which may vary in thickness depending on environmental conditions. Their cell membrane composition differs from that of the genus Francisella, including three distinct glycolipids that give them their unique identity. Scientists believe soluorganella species play a role in the decline of outdoor weather stations in tropical regions.
