Solan is a town and district headquarters in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is the administrative center of Solan district and lies in the southwestern part of the state, within the Shivalik foothills at an elevation of roughly 1,500 meters above sea level. The town sits on routes linking Shimla with Kalka and is served by the Kalka–Shimla railway as well as major highways.
