Societyart is a term used to describe artistic practices that directly engage social systems, communities, and everyday life. It encompasses works that seek to reflect, analyze, or influence social conditions by incorporating participants, publics, or data into the production or presentation of art. Rather than presenting a finished object alone, societyart often foregrounds process, collaboration, and dialogue as part of the work itself.

Practices include participatory installations, community-based performances, public art projects, socially engaged sculpture, and activist or data-driven art that addresses issues such as inequality, urban life, migration, or governance. Projects frequently involve collaboration with residents, NGOs, researchers, or local authorities, and may take place in non-traditional spaces such as streets, community centers, or online platforms.

Societyart overlaps with socially engaged art, community art, public art, and relational aesthetics. It differs from more traditional art by foregrounding process and social interaction, and it must confront questions of authorship, consent, representation, and the political aims of the work.

The impulse can be traced to modern and contemporary movements that treat art as social practice, including the idea of art as a form of social sculpture and the later development of relational aesthetics and related approaches.
