Slitovité is a geological term referring to a set of sedimentary rocks characterized by their fine grain size and laminated or fissile structure. These rocks typically consist of clay minerals, silt-sized quartz, and feldspar. The fine particles are deposited in a calm environment, such as a lake, quiet sea, or slow-moving river, where they can settle out of suspension. The lamination or fissility refers to the tendency of the rock to split into thin, parallel layers. This property arises from the parallel orientation of the platy clay minerals, which are aligned during compaction of the sediment.
Common examples of slitovité rocks include shale and mudstone. Shale is specifically defined by its fissility,
