A skördetröska, also known as a combine harvester, is a multipurpose machine that harvests and threshes grain crops. It combines the functions of three separate harvesting machines: the reaper, the thresher, and the winnowing machine. This integration allows for efficient and continuous harvesting of grains such as wheat, oats, barley, corn, soybeans, and rice.

The process begins at the front of the machine where a header cuts the crop. This cut material is then fed into the machine's threshing drum, which separates the grain from the stalk and husks. The separated grain is then cleaned by a sieving system, often referred to as a cleaning shoe, which removes chaff and other debris. Finally, the clean grain is collected in a storage tank on the combine, from where it can be unloaded into a truck or grain cart.

Skördetröskor have significantly increased the efficiency and speed of grain harvesting since their invention. Early models were developed in the 19th century, with widespread adoption occurring in the 20th century. Modern skördetröskor are highly sophisticated, often equipped with advanced technologies like GPS guidance, yield monitoring, and automated steering systems to optimize performance and reduce labor requirements. They are a cornerstone of modern agriculture, enabling large-scale food production.
