Skärmdisplay is a Swedish term that translates to "screen display" in English. It refers to the visual output component of electronic devices such as computers, televisions, smartphones, and tablets. These displays are responsible for presenting images, text, and video to the user.

Historically, screen displays have evolved significantly. Early displays were often based on cathode ray tube (CRT) technology, which used electron beams to illuminate phosphors on the screen. These were bulky and consumed considerable power. The advent of flat-panel displays revolutionized the market, with technologies like Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) becoming dominant.
