Skivepumper, also known as rotary vane pumps, are a type of positive displacement pump. They consist of a rotor that rotates within a cylindrical housing, often referred to as a stator or casing. The rotor has slots in which vanes are fitted. These vanes are typically spring-loaded or are able to slide outwards due to centrifugal force. As the rotor spins, the vanes slide out and maintain contact with the inner wall of the housing. This creates multiple, expanding and contracting chambers between the rotor, vanes, and housing.

The pumping action occurs as the rotor turns. On one side of the housing, the volume of the chambers increases, creating a vacuum that draws fluid into the pump. As the rotor continues to rotate, these chambers move towards the opposite side of the housing. Here, the volume decreases, forcing the trapped fluid out of the discharge port under pressure. The continuous rotation of the rotor and the action of the vanes ensure a relatively smooth and continuous flow of fluid.

Skivepumps are known for their simple construction, reliability, and ability to handle a variety of fluids, including those with low viscosity. They are often used in applications such as lubrication systems, fuel transfer, vacuum generation, and hydraulic power units. The specific design and materials used can vary depending on the intended application and the properties of the fluid being pumped.
