Skinmay is a fictional term used in speculative biology and science fiction to denote a rapid, reversible change in the skin's appearance and texture in response to environmental or emotional cues. It is not a medically recognized phenomenon.

In the imagined framework, skinmay arises from coordinated signaling among epidermal keratinocytes, melanocytes, dermal vasculature, and cutaneous nerve endings. Triggers such as temperature shifts, light exposure, stress, or tactile stimulation could induce transient vasodilation or vasoconstriction, pigment redistribution, and microtexture changes, producing a visibly different skin state within minutes to hours.

Variability is a key feature: responses differ among individuals and contexts, and the changes are intended to be reversible. The concept has been used in discussions of nervous system-skin interfaces and in fiction to rationalize adaptive camouflage or mood-adaptive cosmetics.
